Brim May Release: Generate Smarter, Validate Better, Ask Anything
Hi everyone,
This month we're bringing three big updates that make Brim more flexible, more reliable, and more helpful. New Generation Capabilities give you finer control over what gets generated and how. Validation V2 makes it easier than ever to build a trustworthy abstraction pipeline. And Brim Assistant Beta means you always have a knowledgeable guide right at your fingertips. Let's dive in!
⚡ New Generation Capabilities: More Control, Clearer Flow
We've overhauled the label generation flow to give you greater precision and a much more intuitive workflow.
With this update, you can now
- Filter by document upload: generate labels only for records tied to specific document uploads.
- Generate only new values: skip records that already have labels and run generation exclusively on new patient-variable combinations, saving time and tokens on large projects.
- See Maximum Token Estimates: Brim will give you an estimate of the maximum number of tokens you can expect to use in this generation. Most generations are smaller than the token estimate, but this helps you avoid token sticker shock.
- Work in an easier-to-understand flow: the generation setup has been reorganized so each step is clearer.
Whether you're running a targeted re-abstraction pass or kicking off a fresh project, these updates give you the control you need to generate with confidence.

✅ Validation V2: Build More Reliable Pipelines
Validation is one of the most important steps in any abstraction project, and we've made it significantly more powerful.
This release gives you new tools to build and optimize robust abstraction pipelines:
- Separate training and holdout data: keep your optimization set and your holdout set distinct, so you get a true measure of how well your variables generalize.
- Train using uploaded and manually labelled data: use both your uploaded reference datasets and any labels you've created by hand when optimizing your variables, giving you maximum flexibility in how you improve your agreement scores.
The result is a validation workflow that's easier to set up and better suited for projects where reliability really matters.
