Variable Library: April 2026

We're excited to announce a major expansion to the Brim Variable Library: the CathPCI bundle is now available, bringing the total variable count to over 250.

New Bundle: CathPCI

This release introduces the CathPCI bundle, 171 pre-built variables mapped to the NCDR® CathPCI Registry® v4.4 Coder's Data Dictionary. Use this bundle to extract the outcomes and metrics required for CathPCI reporting.

The CathPCI bundle covers the full data collection workflow, including:

  • History & Risk Factors: Hypertension, dyslipidemia, prior MI, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral arterial disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic lung disease, prior PCI/CABG, and more
  • Cath Lab Visit: CAD presentation, symptom onset timestamps, anti-anginal medications, cardiac stress testing, procedure timestamps, hemodynamic status, access site details
  • Coronary Anatomy: Coronary dominance, stenosis percent by vessel territory (left main, proximal/mid/distal LAD, circumflex, RCA, ramus), graft stenosis
  • Diagnostic Cath: Procedure performed, status (elective/urgent/emergency/salvage), transplant evaluation, recommended treatment
  • PCI Procedure: Indication, status, STEMI identification, pre-PCI LVEF, cardiogenic shock, transfer status
  • Lesion and Devices: Segment number, lesion complexity, TIMI flow (pre and post), thrombus, bifurcation, device type/diameter/length, stenosis pre and post-procedure
  • Intra & Post Procedure Events: MI (biomarker positive), cardiogenic shock, CVA/stroke, tamponade, bleeding events, dialysis, vascular complications
  • Discharge: CABG surgery, LVEF at discharge, discharge status and location, cardiac rehabilitation referral, cause of death, discharge medications

Variable Updates

  • Variables now support Explicit Variable Referencing, making data flow between them more explicit and easier to understand.
  • Some Library Variables now leverage Conditional Generation, which reduces token usage by limiting the documents that a given variable needs to compute its value.

Help Shape the Library

Have a variable set, dataset, or bundle you use frequently that should be in the library?

We're especially interested in:

  • Other registry-based variable sets (e.g., STS, TAVR, stroke registries)
  • Frequently reused variable groupings across your team's projects
