February 2026 Release Notes

πŸ—οΈ Variable Creation: Multi-Level Auto-Generation

The Dependent Variable Auto-Generator has been significantly expanded.

You can now automatically generate complete multi-level variable hierarchies, including all dependent child variables, from a single prompt.

This allows teams to move directly from project setup into generation and review workflows without manually constructing hierarchies.

  1. Navigate to Project Setup β†’ Dependent Variables
  2. Select Add Dependent Variable
  3. Enter a real-world clinical or research prompt
  4. Generate the hierarchy automatically

For detailed instructions, see the Dependent Variable documentation.

πŸ“ˆ Variable Optimization: Integrated with the Variable Scorecard

Variable auto-generation and optimization are now directly connected to the Brim Variable Scorecard.

Automatically generated variables are now optimized to perform strongly across Brim’s four variable best-practice dimensions:

  1. Simplicity: Clear and focused definitions
  2. Semantics: Clinically meaningful interpretation
  3. References: Appropriate relationships between variables
  4. Completeness: Internal consistency with examples included

In practice, this means:

  • Higher-quality variables immediately after generation
  • Less downstream refinement before review
  • Faster progression to validation and export

Auto-generated variables now align more closely with production abstraction standards from the start.

βœ… Validation: Flexible Match Rules & Improved Investigation

This release introduces major upgrades to the Validation Tool, making it easier to evaluate agreement with golden datasets and investigate mismatches.

Configurable Match Rules

Validation now supports variable-level match configuration.

When editing a variable, a new Validation section allows you to define how agreement should be evaluated.

Available options include:

  • Exact Match. Values must match precisely.
  • Match Rule. Values can match within:
    • a numeric or temporal range, or
    • a defined calendar grouping.

This enables more realistic validation workflows for timestamps, measurements, and clinically equivalent values.

Faster Validation Investigation

When discrepancies occur, Brim now provides streamlined investigation tools directly inside Validation.

New capabilities include:

  • View Variable Definition. Quickly review definitions using the info icon.
  • View Reasoning & Provide Feedback. Inspect abstraction reasoning and submit inline feedback.
  • View Variable Hierarchy. Understand upstream variables contributing to a value

These updates make it easier to determine whether mismatches stem from source data, variable definitions, or abstraction reasoning, and adjust accordingly.

Also in this Release:

  • Add user invite and permissioning to API
  • Rename Projects
  • Token Usage Dashboard visible to users with Generate permission
  • Updated Validation Data States
  • Display current workers on Queue Page and allow editing in Manage Project
  • Filter by Status moved to the Filters menu
  • Accessibility Improvements for Screen Readers and low-visibility users.
  • Other miscellaneous improvements.
